National Library of Romania - New Building

New Building

In 1986, a new, larger location began to be built for the library, between PiaĊ£a Unirii and Nerva Traian. Shortly after 1989, although some parts of the building are finished or in an advanced state, due to lack of funding, the construction had stalled until recent years. In 2009 the project was reassigned to the Ministry of Culture, which completed the construction in 2011 and set the official opening date to take place in 2012.

Famous quotes containing the word building:

And no less firmly do I hold that we shall one day recognize in Freud’s life-work the cornerstone for the building of a new anthropology and therewith of a new structure, to which many stones are being brought up today, which shall be the future dwelling of a wiser and freer humanity.
    Thomas Mann (1875–1955)

No: until I want the protection of Massachusetts to be extended to me in some distant Southern port, where my liberty is endangered, or until I am bent solely on building up an estate at home by peaceful enterprise, I can afford to refuse allegiance to Massachusetts, and her right to my property and life. It costs me less in every sense to incur the penalty of disobedience to the State than it would to obey. I should feel as if I were worth less in that case.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
