National Identification Number - Czech Republic

Czech Republic

Czech Republic uses a system inherited from former Czechoslovakia called Birth Number (Czech: Rodné číslo (RČ)). The form is YYXXDD/SSSC, where XX=MM (month of birth) for male (numbers 01-12) and XX=MM+50 for female (numbers 51-62), SSS is a serial number separating persons born on the same date and C a checksum (full number must be divisible by 11). The form before 1 Januar 1954 is YYXXDD/SSS without a checksum. This enables the using the system in the year 2054. Otherwise the numbers are repeated every century). It is described below, in section about the Slovak National Numbers, because Slovakia uses the same system The system has raised privacy concerns, since age and sex of the owner can be decoded from the number, it may be replaced by a meaningless identifier.

There are other numbers called Citizen's Identification Card Numbers (Czech: Číslo občanského průkazu (ČOP)), which are in the format XXX XXX XXX (all numeric), but these are not unique to a person, but to a card. The first ID card is obtained at the age of 15 and the number changes, whenever one obtains a new one (change of address, marital status, loss of the card...).

Famous quotes containing the words czech and/or republic:

I’m neither Czech nor Slovak ... I’m still trying to figure out who I am. I think I’m Jewish. But first I want to be human.
    Natasha Dudinska (b. c. 1967)

Universal empire is the prerogative of a writer. His concerns are with all mankind, and though he cannot command their obedience, he can assign them their duty. The Republic of Letters is more ancient than monarchy, and of far higher character in the world than the vassal court of Britain.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)
