Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (abbreviation: NAFA; Chinese: 南洋艺术学院; Malay: Akademi Seni Halus Nanyang) is the longest established tertiary arts education institution in Singapore. In 1938, the late founding principal and artist Mr Lim Hak Tai, a group of art teachers together with 14 aspiring artists boldly established the foundation of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) which has since become a premier arts institution known for its exemplary curricula, innovative teaching approach, and diverse artistic creations. The heritage of NAFA is unique to the academy; its training programmes reflect its roots in Southeast Asia, emphasising traditional strengths while embracing modernity to keep pace with the contemporary art world. NAFA commemorates its 75th anniversary with a calendar of performances and exhibitions that are a showcase of what the academy represents today.
