Geography
Namkum is located at 23°21'N 85°22'E. The total area under Namkum Block is 415.57 square kilometres and the average elevation is 629 m above sea level. Most parts of the total area are considered rural since it is in the outskirts of the city. Situated in the eastern end of Ranchi, Namkum has a large cover of forests and areable land. But these are being depleted to give space to the expanding city.
