Chicago Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts
In 1977, the Chicago Cultural Center began a series of free lunchtime concerts held at its Preston Bradley Hall every Wednesday from 12:15–1pm, named in Hess's honor as The Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts. These are still broadcast live on radio station WFMT and streamed at WFMT.com.

Famous quotes containing the words chicago, dame, hess, memorial and/or concerts:
“Ethnic life in the United States has become a sort of contest like baseball in which the blacks are always the Chicago Cubs.”
—Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
“You know, a dame with a rod is like a guy with a knitting needle.”
—Geoffrey Homes (19021977)
“Your children are not here to fill the void left by marital dissatisfaction and disengagement. They are not to be utilized as a substitute for adult-adult intimacy. They are not in this world in order to satisfy a wifes or a husbands need for love, closeness or a sense of worth. A childs task is to fully develop his/her emerging self. When we place our children in the position of satisfying our needs, we rob them of their childhood.”
—Aaron Hess (20th century)
“When I received this [coronation] ring I solemnly bound myself in marriage to the realm; and it will be quite sufficient for the memorial of my name and for my glory, if, when I die, an inscription be engraved on a marble tomb, saying, Here lieth Elizabeth, which reigned a virgin, and died a virgin.”
—Elizabeth I (15331603)
“If you love music, hear it; go to operas, concerts and pay fiddlers to play to you; but I insist on your neither piping nor fiddling yourself. It puts a gentleman in a very frivolous, contemptible light.... Few things would mortify me more than to see you bearing a part in a concert, with a fiddle under your chin, or a pipe in your mouth.”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
