Music of Belize - Modern Music

Modern Music

Belize's musical base has expanded considerably in recent years with the addition of local reggae, Hip Hop, metalcore, hard rock and dancehall acts.

Various heavy metal and hard rock bands are scattered around the country (most in districts with a higher Mestizo population such as the north and Cayo) such as Lasher Zombie.

There has also been a noticeable influence of EDM in the country, mostly among youths, with house music being prominent. Many have become disc jockeys.

However, despite the many growing rock and electronic music scenes, commercial pop music from the United States and England, and modern dancehall artists from Jamaica (Vybz Kartel, Mavado) still remain the most popular forms of music among young Belizeans.

Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or music:

I do not approve the extermination of the enemy; the policy of exterminating or, as it is barbarously said, liquidating enemies, is one of the most alarming developments of modern war and peace, from the point of view of those who desire the survival of culture. One needs the enemy.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

... the majority of colored men do not yet think it worth while that women aspire to higher education.... The three R’s, a little music and a good deal of dancing, a first rate dress-maker and a bottle of magnolia balm, are quite enough generally to render charming any woman possessed of tact and the capacity for worshipping masculinity.
    Anna Julia Cooper (1859–1964)
