Problems

  • In semi-annual tests of the warning system, more than twenty percent of the sirens have periodically failed to sound the alarm tones. During a 2007 test, the dedicated emergency broadcaster - 1580AM - failed to switch automatically to the prerecorded warning message, forcing officials to switch the station's programming manually.
  • During a 2006 test of the Emergency Alert System in Washington state, operator error resulted in the transmission of a volcano alert to broadcast stations. The alert, which was not corrected for 41 minutes, was carried over-the-air by KELA-AM.

Famous quotes containing the word problems:

If when a businessman speaks of minority employment, or air pollution, or poverty, he speaks in the language of a certified public accountant analyzing a corporate balance sheet, who is to know that he understands the human problems behind the statistical ones? If the businessman would stop talking like a computer printout or a page from the corporate annual report, other people would stop thinking he had a cash register for a heart. It is as simple as that—but that isn’t simple.
    Louis B. Lundborg (1906–1981)

I am always glad to think that my education was, for the most part, informal, and had not the slightest reference to a future business career. It left me free and untrammeled to approach my business problems without the limiting influence of specific training.
    Alice Foote MacDougall (1867–1945)

Sustained unemployment not only denies parents the opportunity to meet the food, clothing, and shelter needs of their children but also denies them the sense of adequacy, belonging, and worth which being able to do so provides. This increases the likelihood of family problems and decreases the chances of many children to be adequately prepared for school.
    James P. Comer (20th century)
