Morro

A morro is a rocky outcrop in the shallow waters of a harbor, often round in shape and sometimes very high. They are commonly made from hard granite or quartz. The word comes form the Spanish reference to a rounded rounded promontory.

Famous examples are the San Felipe del Morro Castle, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Morro Solar in Lima, Peru and Morro Rock in California, USA. Less well known, but similar in shape, is the promontory in Sequoia National Park, overlooking the Kaweah River.
