History
Originally named the Garban, the river was named River Moore in May 1836 by Corporal Patrick Heffron of the 63rd Regiment of Foot, who named it after his expedition leader George Fletcher Moore, Advocate-General. The exploratory party comprised Moore, Heffron and the native Weenat. Heffron was notable for his participation in the Battle of Pinjarra in 1834.

“No cause is left but the most ancient of all, the one, in fact, that from the beginning of our history has determined the very existence of politics, the cause of freedom versus tyranny.”

“Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
