Prime Crew Members
NASA's Director of Flight Crew Operations during the Gemini and Apollo programs was Donald K. "Deke" Slayton, one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, who was medically grounded in September 1962 due to a heart murmur. Slayton was responsible for making all Gemini and Apollo crew assignments. In March 1972, Slayton was restored to flight status, and flew on the 1975 Apollo–Soyuz Test Project mission.
The prime crew members selected for actual missions are here grouped by their NASA astronaut selection groups, and within each group in the order selected for flight.

Famous quotes containing the words prime, crew and/or members:
“Ye elms that wave on Malvern Hill
In prime of morn and May,
Recall ye how McClellans men
Here stood at bay?”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“Nor aught availed him now
To have built in heavn high towrs; nor did he scape
By all his engines, but was headlong sent
With his industrious crew to build in hell.”
—John Milton (16081674)
“I have more in common with a Mexican man than with a white woman.... This opinion ... chagrins women who sincerely believe our female physiology unequivocally binds all women throughout the world, despite the compounded social prejudices that daily affect us all in different ways. Although women everywhere experience life differently from men everywhere, white women are members of a race that has proclaimed itself globally superior for hundreds of years.”
—Ana Castillo (b. 1953)
