Montgomeryshire (UK Parliament Constituency) - Boundaries

Boundaries

The seat is based on the ancient county of Montgomeryshire, in the principal area of Powys. One of Britain's most rural and isolated constituencies, it has also been one of the small handful of seats that the Lib Dems (formerly the Liberal Party) could call safe, before a loss to the Conservatives in the 2010 General Election. Apart from this and a Conservative victory in the 1979 general election, Montgomeryshire has elected Liberal or Liberal-affiliated candidates since 1880. The seat was officially known as Montgomery before 1997.

Famous quotes containing the word boundaries:

Whereas the Greeks gave to will the boundaries of reason, we have come to put the will’s impulse in the very center of reason, which has, as a result, become deadly.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

Women’s art, though created in solitude, wells up out of community. There is, clearly, both enormous hunger for the work thus being diffused, and an explosion of creative energy, bursting through the coercive choicelessness of the system on whose boundaries we are working.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

Ideas are not thoughts; the thought respects the boundaries that the idea ignores thereby failing to realize itself.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)
