Legal Status
In the USA, dried root bark of Mimosa Tenuiflora / Hostilis had been considered a "grey area" item for a long time. However, recent efforts by the D.E.A. appear to be focusing on eliminating internet sales of the bark, citing 21 USC ยง 841, which states that "(IV) any compound, mixture, or preparation which contains any quantity of any of the substances referred to in subclauses (I) through (III);" is also considered an illegal substance. In September of 2012, a major online retailer, Sonoran Song, was raided by the D.E.A. A substantial quantity of root bark was seized, but the owners were not charged and were allowed to continue operating under the caveat that they would not sell any more root bark. The raid prompted almost all of the other retailers to end online sales of root bark.

Famous quotes containing the words legal and/or status:
“We should stop looking to law to provide the final answer.... Law cannot save us from ourselves.... We have to go out and try to accomplish our goals and resolve disagreements by doing what we think is right. That energy and resourcefulness, not millions of legal cubicles, is what was great about America. Let judgment and personal conviction be important again.”
—Philip K. Howard, U.S. lawyer. The Death of Common Sense: How Law Is Suffocating America, pp. 186-87, Random House (1994)
“As a work of art it has the same status as a long conversation between two not very bright drunks.”
—Clive James (b. 1939)
