Miami City Ballet is an American ballet company based in Miami Beach, Florida. It was created in 1985 by former New York City Ballet principal dancer Edward Villella and flourishes today as one of America's most respected regional ballet companies. A bulk of the company's repertoire is made up of the work of George Balanchine, Villella's mentor, though the company also performs works by Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Trey McIntyre, and others, in addition to traditional full-length classics like "Giselle" and "Don Quixote".

Famous quotes containing the words city and/or ballet:
“Living in cities is an art, and we need the vocabulary of art, of style, to describe the peculiar relationship between man and material that exists in the continual creative play of urban living. The city as we imagine it, then, soft city of illusion, myth, aspiration, and nightmare, is as real, maybe more real, than the hard city one can locate on maps in statistics, in monographs on urban sociology and demography and architecture.”
—Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)
“Anyone who has a child today should train him to be either a physicist or a ballet dancer. Then hell escape.”
—W.H. (Wystan Hugh)
