Beginnings of McLaren

Bruce McLaren started the Woking-based McLaren Formula One team in 1966. Teddy Mayer took over direction of the group following Bruce McLaren's death while testing a Can-am series car in 1970. Mayer subsequently lead the McLaren to their first World Constructors' Championship in 1974 with Brazilian driver Emerson Fittipaldi, who also won the World Drivers' Championship that year.

Famous quotes containing the words beginnings of, beginnings and/or mclaren:

The beginnings of altruism can be seen in children as early as the age of two. How then can we be so concerned that they count by the age of three, read by four, and walk with their hands across the overhead parallel bars by five, and not be concerned that they act with kindness to others?
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)

When the beginnings of self-destruction enter the heart it seems no bigger than a grain of sand.
    John Cheever (1912–1982)

Our culture has become something that is completely and utterly in love with its parent. It’s become a notion of boredom that is bought and sold, where nothing will happen except that people will become more and more terrified of tomorrow, because the new continues to look old, and the old will always look cute.
    —Malcolm McLaren (b. 1946)
