Film Adaptation
The film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World takes part of its title from this novel, as well as some of the themes and several puns. However, very little of the film's plot comes from the novel and is only named so because of a general belief on the part of the movie studio that the series is known as the "Master and Commander" series, as opposed to the "Aubrey-Maturin" series.

Famous quotes containing the words film and/or adaptation:
“Film is more than the twentieth-century art. Its another part of the twentieth-century mind. Its the world seen from inside. Weve come to a certain point in the history of film. If a thing can be filmed, the film is implied in the thing itself. This is where we are. The twentieth century is on film.... You have to ask yourself if theres anything about us more important than the fact that were constantly on film, constantly watching ourselves.”
—Don Delillo (b. 1926)
“In youth the human body drew me and was the object of my secret and natural dreams. But body after body has taken away from me that sensual phosphorescence which my youth delighted in. Within me is no disturbing interplay now, but only the steady currents of adaptation and of sympathy.”
—Haniel Long (18881956)
