Famous quotes containing the words margaret anderson, margaret and/or anderson:
“I cant earn my own living. I could never make anything turn into money. Its like making fires. A careful assortment of paper, shavings, faggots and kindling nicely tipped with pitch will never light for me. I have never been present when a cigarette butt, extinct, thrown into a damp and isolated spot, started a conflagration in the California woods.”
—Margaret Anderson (18861973)
“Theres Margaret and Marjorie and Dorothy and Nan,
A Daphne and a Mary who live in privacy;
Ones had her fill of lovers, anothers had but one,
Another boasts, I pick and choose and have but two or three.
If head and limb have beauty and the insteps high and light
They can spread out what sail they please for all I have to say....”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
“Modern photographers can reduce bones to formlessness, and change a face of the most strange, exquisite and unfathomable beauty into the face of a clubwoman.”
—Margaret Anderson (18861973)
