March 1997 Lunar Eclipse

This partial lunar eclipse is nearly total, however it occurred 3 days after the lunar apogee, so the umbral shadow is smaller.

Famous quotes containing the words march, lunar and/or eclipse:

As high as mind stands above nature, so high does the state stand above physical life. Man must therefore venerate the state as a secular deity.... The march of God in the world, that is what the State is.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

A bird half wakened in the lunar noon
Sang halfway through its little inborn tune.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

Nations, like stars, are entitled to eclipse. All is well, provided the light returns and the eclipse does not become endless night. Dawn and resurrection are synonymous. The reappearance of the light is the same as the survival of the soul.
    Victor Hugo (1802–1885)
