During the first year of its township in 1899, Mandaue had 42 barrios and with a population of 21,086. When Mandaue was a second class municipality in 1964 and had a population of 33,811. According to the May, 2010 Philippine census, Mandaue City has a projected population of about 331,320 people. This figure is up by 86,965 from 259,728 persons recorded in the May 2000 census.
