Manatee High School - Athletic Facilities

Athletic Facilities

With land area about one third the size of average high schools, stadium, practice field, and parking space is sparse. Hawkins Stadium is home to the hurricane football, soccer, and lacrosse teams. There is seating for about 7,000 and it is almost always filled during football games. A tradition that started in the '30s, Manatee seniors continue to graduate at the stadium. In 2001, the field was voted to be named after long-time football head coach, Joe Kinnan. A practice field for football and lacrosse is located directly behind the stadium. An additional field with a track surrounding it with a capacity for 600 is located next to the junior parking lots. This field is used by JROTC and the cross country and track teams at Manatee.

Famous quotes containing the words athletic and/or facilities:

Short of a wholesale reform of college athletics—a complete breakdown of the whole system that is now focused on money and power—the women’s programs are just as doomed as the men’s are to move further and further away from the academic mission of their colleges.... We have to decide if that’s the kind of success for women’s sports that we want.
Christine H. B. Grant, U.S. university athletic director. As quoted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, p. A42 (May 12, 1993)

Marriage is good enough for the lower classes: they have facilities for desertion that are denied to us.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
