Machias Seal Island is an island located in the Gulf of Maine, approximately 16 km (9.9 mi) southeast from Cutler, Maine, and approximately 19 km (11.8 mi) southwest of Southwest Head, New Brunswick on Grand Manan Island. It is a neighbour to North Rock. Sovereignty of the island is disputed; both Canada and the United States claim sovereignty. The Canadian Coast Guard continues to staff a lighthouse on the island; the first having been constructed in 1832.
