Lynda Barry - Personal Life

Personal Life

For a time, Barry dated public-radio personality Ira Glass, who moved to Chicago in 1989 to be with her.

Barry is married to Kevin Kawula, a prairie restoration expert. They met each other while she was an artist-in-residence at the Ragdale Foundation and he was land manager of the Lake Forest Open Lands project in Lake Forest, Illinois. They live on a farm near Footville, Wisconsin.

In 1994, Barry suffered a near-fatal case of dengue fever.

She is a vegetarian and says she came to it slowly.

More recently, she has become an outspoken critic of wind power.

On 18 January 2012, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arts Institute and Department of Art announced that Barry will be artist in residence for the spring term. She will teach a class titled "What It Is: Manually Shifting the Image." and a schedule of four public lectures with special guests has been announced.

From September 24-28 2012, Lynda Barry is the artist in residence at Capilano University in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

Your children don’t have equal talents now and they won’t have equal opportunities later in life. You may be able to divide resources equally in childhood, but your best efforts won’t succeed in shielding them from personal or physical crises. . . . Your heart will be broken a thousand times if you really expect to equalize your children’s happiness by striving to love them equally.
    Marianne E. Neifert (20th century)

The deadly monotony of Christian country life where there are no beggars to feed, no drunkards to credit, which are among the moral duties of Christians in cities, leads as naturally to the outvent of what Methodists call “revivals” as did the backslidings of the people in those days.
    Corra May Harris (1869–1935)
