Enter Dorian
Dr. Dorian Cramer is suspended from Llanview Hospital in the summer of 1973 after romantic involvement with Dr. Mark Toland leads to medical negligence and the death of a patient. When Dorian's contract with the hospital is terminated, she blames hospital board member Viki (who, it is later revealed in the series, is the lone vote for Dorian's contractual reinstatement) for the decision.
Dorian and Viki spar further when Dorian is hired as Victor Lord's private physician after he suffers a stroke. Viki's disdain for Dorian is intensified when, in May 1975, Victor announces that he and Dorian had eloped. Concurrently, Viki gains an enemy in Cathy Craig. After sister Meredith's death, Viki divorces Steve and remarried true love Joe, inspired by Meredith's declaration of her undying love for then-husband Dr. Larry Wolek. However, during Viki and Joe's separation due to Viki's marriage with Steve, Cathy becomes pregnant with Joe's child. Tragically, Viki is involved in a car accident while caring for stepdaughter Megan, an accident which results in the infant's death. Assuming Viki purposefully and jealously killed her and Joe's baby girl, Cathy swears revenge against Viki.
