A bulk foam unit (BFU) may be summoned to incidents that require a large amount of foam to support operations involving large-scale flammable liquid fires. An example would be a plane crash or chemical fire where a major foam attack would be undertaken.
The LFB currently operates three of these vehicles, based at Sutton, Finchley and Barking. Based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros, they can transport a variety of fuel firefighting media and application equipment in 1,000-litre containers or on 1-tonne pallets. These can be removed from the transporter by a forklift truck and transported around the fireground as required.

Famous quotes containing the words bulk, foam and/or unit:
“The truth is that a Pigmy and a Patagonian, a Mouse and a Mammoth, derive their dimensions from the same nutritive juices.... [A]ll the manna of heaven would never raise the Mouse to the bulk of the Mammoth.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
“Yet ere I can say wherethe chariot hath
Passed over themnor other trace I find
But as of foam after the oceans wrath”
—Percy Bysshe Shelley (17921822)
“During the Suffragette revolt of 1913 I ... [urged] that what was needed was not the vote, but a constitutional amendment enacting that all representative bodies shall consist of women and men in equal numbers, whether elected or nominated or coopted or registered or picked up in the street like a coroners jury. In the case of elected bodies the only way of effecting this is by the Coupled Vote. The representative unit must not be a man or a woman but a man and a woman.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
