The following is a list of United States numbered highways. It includes U.S. Numbered Highways both past and present, with the former shaded in gray. Three-digit subsidiaries are grouped with their one- or two-digit parent.
The list is based on American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) definitions, with up-to-date details on extensions and truncations, though distances are as of 1989. Discrepancies with state specifications are noted.
A list of bannered U.S. Routes is also available.

“In the United States the whites speak well of the Blacks but think bad about them, whereas the Blacks talk bad and think bad about the whites. Whites fear Blacks, because they have a bad conscience, and Blacks hate whites because they need not have a bad conscience.”
—Friedrich Dürrenmatt (19211990)
“Mr. Christian, it is about time for many people to begin to come to the White House to discuss different phases of the coal strike. In no event bring him to me.”
—Calvin Coolidge (18721933)
“That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.”
