List Of Subdivisions Of County Dublin
Following the Norman invasion of Ireland, the country was split into a number of shires or counties. County Dublin is one such county. Counties were in turn split a series of smaller areas called baronies. Baronies were split into civil parishes; these were in turn split into the lowest recognised legal unit of land - the townland. In 1994 the former County Dublin, together with its administrative councils (Dublin County Council and Dublin Corporation), were formally abolished. New legal entities were created.
