List of Participating Nations at The Winter Olympic Games

This is a list of nations, as represented by National Olympic Committees (NOCs), that have participated in the Winter Olympic Games between 1924 and 2010. The Winter Olympic Games have been held every four years (once during each Olympiad) since 1924, except for the cancelled Games of 1940 and 1944, and in 1994 when the Winter Games were moved to the middle of the Olympiad, two years after the previous Games. 103 of the current 205 NOCs have participated in at least one Winter Games, and twelve nations (Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States) have participated in all twenty-one Winter Games to date. Including continuity from Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have also been represented in every edition.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, nations, winter, olympic and/or games:

    Do your children view themselves as successes or failures? Are they being encouraged to be inquisitive or passive? Are they afraid to challenge authority and to question assumptions? Do they feel comfortable adapting to change? Are they easily discouraged if they cannot arrive at a solution to a problem? The answers to those questions will give you a better appraisal of their education than any list of courses, grades, or test scores.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)

    Religious literature has eminent examples, and if we run over our private list of poets, critics, philanthropists and philosophers, we shall find them infected with this dropsy and elephantiasis, which we ought to have tapped.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    Interest does not tie nations together; it sometimes separates them. But sympathy and understanding does unite them.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

    Whenas the Chill Sirocco blowes,
    And Winter tells a heavy tale;
    When Pyes and Dawes and Rookes and Crows,
    Sit cursing of the frosts and snowes;
    Then give me Ale.
    Thomas Bonham (d. 1629?)

    Like Olympic medals and tennis trophies, all they signified was that the owner had done something of no benefit to anyone more capably than everyone else.
    Joseph Heller (b. 1923)

    As long as lightly all their livelong sessions,
    Like a yardful of schoolboys out at recess
    Before their plays and games were organized,
    They yelling mix tag, hide-and-seek, hopscotch,
    And leapfrog in each other’s way all’s well.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)
