List Of Cities In Syria

Syria is subdivided in a hierarchical manner to subdivisions:

  • 14 Governorates (muhafazah)
    • 64 Districts (mintaqah)
      • 275 Sub-districts (nahiyah)

Each of the 14 Syrian governorates (muhafazat, singular muhafaza) is divided into many districts. The total number of the districts (manatiq, singular mantiqah) in Syria is 64, each of them is divided into smaller sub-districts (nawahi, singular nahiyah). A total of 275 sub-districts are formed in Syria.

Every governorate and district has a capital city, except of the Rif Dimashq Governorate and Markaz Rif Dimashq district. All sub-districts have their own centres as well.

In all districts of Syria, the district bears the same name as its capital with one exception; the Mount Simeon District where the capital is the city of Aleppo. The same goes to all sub-districts except of the Markaz Jabal Sam'an sub-district with the city of Aleppo being its centre.

Famous quotes containing the words list of, list, cities and/or syria:

I made a list of things I have
    to remember and a list
of things I want to forget,
but I see they are the same list.
    Linda Pastan (b. 1932)

Do your children view themselves as successes or failures? Are they being encouraged to be inquisitive or passive? Are they afraid to challenge authority and to question assumptions? Do they feel comfortable adapting to change? Are they easily discouraged if they cannot arrive at a solution to a problem? The answers to those questions will give you a better appraisal of their education than any list of courses, grades, or test scores.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)

1st Murderer. Where’s thy conscience now?...
2nd Murderer. I’ll not meddle with it. It makes a man a coward.... It fills a man full of obstacles. It made me once restore a purse of gold that by chance I found. It beggars any man that keeps it. It is turned out of towns and cities for a dangerous thing, and every man that means to live well endeavors to trust to himself and live without it.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

...that he may learn that there is a prophet in Israel.
    Bible: Hebrew, 2 Kings 5:8.

Elijah to the king of Israel who has received a letter from the king of Syria looking for someone to cure his commander of leprosy.
