Reid supports a variety of causes in her riding and around the province. Reid was a supporter of the Nelson Road Interchange project which was completed in 2011. This new interchange reduces truck traffic and improves safety for farmers and their families. Reid advocated for the creation of an endowment fund for the Girl Guides of Canada to protect against changes in the property tax exemption status on their camp - Camp Olave. In 2008, Reid was instrumental in the implementation of the Roots of Empathy program in BC. This program aims to reduce bullying by fostering empathy in 3 to 5 year olds. Reid was the 2004-2005 chair of the Canada Northwest Fetal Alcohol Partnership, which aims to develop an inter provincial approach to preventing FASD.
In January 2012, Reid traveled to New Mexico for the opening of their 50th legislative session. Reid is the first non-American citizen to be present at the opening of an American legislative session. Reid’s trip to New Mexico stemmed from a friendship agreement between the legislative assemblies of British Columbia and New Mexico. This friendship agreement allows for exchanges of information and traditions between the two. While in New Mexico, Reid was also asked to address the committee of Public School Support and Related Appropriations.

Famous quotes containing the words significant and/or works:
“The countenances of children, like those of animals, are masks, not faces, for they have not yet developed a significant profile of their own.”
—W.H. (Wystan Hugh)
“Most young black females learn to be suspicious and critical of feminist thinking long before they have any clear understanding of its theory and politics.... Without rigorously engaging feminist thought, they insist that racial separatism works best. This attitude is dangerous. It not only erases the reality of common female experience as a basis for academic study; it also constructs a framework in which differences cannot be examined comparatively.”
—bell hooks (b. c. 1955)
