The Libya national football team (Arabic: منتخب ليبيا لكرة القدم) is the national association football team of Libya and is controlled by the Libyan Football Federation. The team has never qualified for the senior FIFA World Cup. They have qualified for three Africa Cup of Nations, one in 1982 where they finished runners-up and also hosted the tournament. The second was in 2006, which was the first time that they qualified without hosting the tournament where they failed to progress from their group, and the third was in 2012. They also finished runners-up in the 1964 Arab Nations Cup.
Libya recorded good performances in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations under Brazilian Coach Marcos Paqueta. They managed to record their first win in the tournament outside of Libya in their final match against Senegal. This saw their FIFA world rankings rise to the highest it has ever been at 53, later rising to 39 in July.

Famous quotes containing the words national, football and/or team:
“Let us put an end to self-inflicted wounds. Let us remember that our national unity is a most priceless asset. Let us deny our adversaries the satisfaction of using Vietnam to pit Americans against Americans.”
—Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
“In this dream that dogs me I am part
Of a silent crowd walking under a wall,
Leaving a football match, perhaps, or a pit,
All moving the same way.”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
“Imagination is a valuable asset in business and she has a sister, Understanding, who also serves. Together they make a splendid team and business problems dissolve and the impossible is accomplished by their ministrations.... Imagination concerning the worlds wants and the individuals needs should be the Alpha and Omega of self-education.”
—Alice Foote MacDougall (18671945)
