The college offers various sports teams. In 2012, the LYIT Ladies Basketball team was awarded Team of the Year at the Annual Sports and Clubs Awards Night.
Local architect Antoin MacGabhann is a visiting lecturer.
It is the only Republic of Ireland Institute of Technology (I.T.) to be located in Ulster.
