Music
Music is very important in the life of the school. The high school offers classes such as concert band, jazz band, orchestra and various choral groups. The jazz band plays at sporting events and helps promote school spirit. Junior Chorale, Vocal Ensemble, Men's Chorus, and Campus Chorale perform concerts at the school and in local congregations. Chapel services provide another opportunity for students to share musical abilities as they assist in worship. The elementary and middle school music programs also provide many opportunities for vocal and instrumental instruction and performance. Through a special partnership program, students who desire a special music focus can take classes in Millersville University's Gifted and Talented Music Program. Lancaster Mennonite School provides the residential program and general education courses for students from all over the world who wish to study music at the University. Successfully completed courses are added to the students' high school transcripts.

Famous quotes containing the word music:
“What is our life? a play of passion;
Our mirth the music of division;
Our mothers wombs the tiring-houses be
Where we are dressed for this short comedy.”
—Sir Walter Raleigh (1552?1618)
“From where Pans cavern is
Intolerable music falls.
Foul goat-head, brutal arm appear,
Belly, shoulder, bum,
Flash fishlike; nymphs and satyrs
Copulate in the foam.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
“During the cattle drives, Texas cowboy music came into national significance. Its practical purpose is well knownit was used primarily to keep the herds quiet at night, for often a ballad sung loudly and continuously enough might prevent a stampede. However, the cowboy also sang because he liked to sing.... In this music of the range and trail is the grayness of the prairies, the mournful minor note of a Texas norther, and a rhythm that fits the gait of the cowboys pony.”
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
