Lamborghini V12 - History

History

When Ferruccio Lamborghini set out to provide Ferrari with competition, he contracted Giotto Bizzarrini to design the engine for his car and, according to some accounts, paid him a bonus for every horsepower over what Ferrari's V12 could produce. The finished 3.5-litre (214 cu in) V12 was such that, with minor modifications and improvements, the very same engine (in 6.5 litre form) powered the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640, and completed its service for Lamborghini with the ultimate final version of the Murciélago, the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce.

Lamborghini's all-new 6.5 litre engine for their 2011 Aventador produces 700 PS (510 kW; 690 hp).

Famous quotes containing the word history:

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Social history might be defined negatively as the history of a people with the politics left out.
    —G.M. (George Macaulay)

No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now.
    Richard M. Nixon (b. 1913)
