History
KVLY was originally radio station KESI, licensed to Edinburg and owned by Lloyd Hawkins. He also owned KURV 710 AM, but after a fire destroyed the building both stations were housed in, Hawkins sold KESI, an "Easy Listening" format using an automation system and the Bonneville Beautiful Music format to Henry B. Tippie. Tippie purchased the old Yazoo lawn mower sales and service building and renovated the building using the plans of Chief Engineer, Mike Hales, who also designed the studios of KURV after the fire. Tippie then purchased radio station KRIO in McAllen and also KNCN, C101, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind.”
—Thomas Paine (17371809)
“Philosophy of science without history of science is empty; history of science without philosophy of science is blind.”
—Imre Lakatos (19221974)
“The history of work has been, in part, the history of the workers body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.”
—Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
