Korean Peasants League

The Korean Peasants League (KPL) is a NGO whose members are South Korean farmers.

The KPL was involved in demonstrations in 2003 MC5 in Cancun, Mexico, and one farmer stabbed himself to death during the protest.

A video interview was conducted with KPL spokesperson after the event. The LA indymedia site hosts this video at http://la.indymedia.org/news/2006/02/146152.php and a detailed report at http://la.indymedia.org/news/2006/02/146153.php

Famous quotes containing the words peasants and/or league:

We sing the funeral, as goes the custom, with the hymn of the Dead. But Manuel, he chose a hymn for the living: the song of the coumbite, the song of the earth, of the water, the plants, of fellowship between peasants because he wanted, as I now understand it, that his death for you be the renewal of life.
    Jacques Roumain (1907–1945)

I am not impressed by the Ivy League establishments. Of course they graduate the best—it’s all they’ll take, leaving to others the problem of educating the country. They will give you an education the way the banks will give you money—provided you can prove to their satisfaction that you don’t need it.
    Peter De Vries (b. 1910)
