Native Americans
The Lenape Native Americans that came to the area two thousand years ago, traveled on the mountain in search of food and game. There was a deciduous forest with many varieties of nut trees, Native Americans collected these foods. They collected acorns, walnuts, hickory nuts, beech nuts, chestnuts, and butternuts. Fresh water streams were used to collect water. Game such as deer, elk, and bear was hunted on the mountain.

Famous quotes containing the words native and/or americans:
“A native health and innocence
Within my bones did grow,
And while my God did all his glories show,
I felt a vigour in my sense
That was all spirit: I within did flow
With seas of life like wine;
I nothing in the world did know
But twas divine.”
—Thomas Traherne (16361674)
“My first few weeks in America are always miserable, because the tastes I am cursed with are all of a kind that cannot be gratified here, & I am not enough in sympathy with our gros public to make up for the lack on the aesthetic side. Ones friends are delightful; but we are none of us Americans, we dont think or feel as the Americans do, we are the wretched exotics produced in a European glass-house, the most déplacé & useless class on earth!”
—Edith Wharton (18621937)
