Killara High School - History

History

Killara High started to be built in 1968 and was completed in 1970. The school facilitated the growing demands of the community in the newly created East Killara. Most of the students that went to Killara were the eldest in their family as those who had older siblings went to their school, rather than the newly built Killara.

In the 1980s, Killara High purchased a house occupying a corner of the school area, which later became the language centre and is now commonly referred to as "The House".

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The history of persecution is a history of endeavors to cheat nature, to make water run up hill, to twist a rope of sand.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Tell me of the height of the mountains of the moon, or of the diameter of space, and I may believe you, but of the secret history of the Almighty, and I shall pronounce thee mad.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism.... Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)
