Keshet Broadcasting - History

History

When Israeli Channel 2 was formed in 1993 it had three operators: Keshet; Telad; and Reshet. In 2005 a committee formed by the Second Israeli Broadcasting Authority selected two of the three operators to run the next phase of the then very profitable channel – one of only two channels allowed to run commercials. Keshet came first and was awarded four broadcasting days per week. The other two days were awarded to Reshet.

Keshet is located in Ramat HaHayal, a neighborhood in north Tel Aviv. It also runs the Israeli Music Channel (Channel 24) and the comedy outlet Bip, all integrated under news and entertainment portal mako.co.il.

Keshet CEO is Avi Nir. He was recently quoted on a Wall Street Journal piece on several U.S.-adapted Keshet shows such as "Ramzor" and "Homeland". Keshet president and its most prominent figure is founder and Olympic Committee member Alex Giladi. He is also one of Keshet's owners along with Haim Saban, Mozi Vertahim, Gad Zeevi and Eyal Yona. Bank Leumi also has a stake in the company.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

It may be well to remember that the highest level of moral aspiration recorded in history was reached by a few ancient Jews—Micah, Isaiah, and the rest—who took no count whatever of what might not happen to them after death. It is not obvious to me why the same point should not by and by be reached by the Gentiles.
    Thomas Henry Huxley (1825–95)

We aspire to be something more than stupid and timid chattels, pretending to read history and our Bibles, but desecrating every house and every day we breathe in.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The history of men’s opposition to women’s emancipation is more interesting perhaps than the story of that emancipation itself.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
