Her mother taught English at James Allen's Girls' School until retiring to Cornwall in 2009.
In 2007, Parkinson announced her engagement to fellow comedian Harry Peacock. During her acceptance speech for the Best Television Comedy Actress award at the British Comedy Awards in December 2009, she referred to Peacock as her husband.
