Karachi Circular Railway
Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) (Urdu: کراچی سرکلر ریلوے ) is a revival and proposed Mass Rapid Transit System for Karachi with aims to connect several industrial and commercial districts within the city to the outlying suburbs. Plans have been in the offing for the revival the KCR since 1999, but nothing has happened on the ground.
In December 2005 the Japan International Cooperation Agency agreed to a soft loan of $1.5 billion to revive 50 kilometres of KCR track. The cost of project has been revised and estimates to $2.5 billion on August 2012.
KCR project is still delayed due to bureaucratic hurdles.

Famous quotes containing the words circular and/or railway:
“If one doubts whether Grecian valor and patriotism are not a fiction of the poets, he may go to Athens and see still upon the walls of the temple of Minerva the circular marks made by the shields taken from the enemy in the Persian war, which were suspended there. We have not far to seek for living and unquestionable evidence. The very dust takes shape and confirms some story which we had read.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understandmy mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arms length.”
—Angela Carter (19401992)
