The board consists of six members; one of them is elected as the chair (教育委員長), and one of them is appointed by the board as the superintendent (教育長).

The board has recently banned all incoming and outgoing exchange students due to concerns involving the H1N1 outbreak.

Famous quotes containing the words board and/or education:

During depression the world disappears. Language itself. One has nothing to say. Nothing. No small talk, no anecdotes. Nothing can be risked on the board of talk. Because the inner voice is so urgent in its own discourse: How shall I live? How shall I manage the future? Why should I go on?
    Kate Millett (b. 1934)

Columbus stood in his age as the pioneer of progress and enlightenment. The system of universal education is in our age the most prominent and salutary feature of the spirit of enlightenment, and it is peculiarly appropriate that the schools be made by the people the center of the day’s demonstration. Let the national flag float over every schoolhouse in the country and the exercises be such as shall impress upon our youth the patriotic duties of American citizenship.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)
