Arts

Kamiakin's music program has been recognized as a top program in the state. In recent years, the percussion ensemble took second place at the state solo and ensemble contest in 2005. Soloists have attended the solo part of the contest and in 2008 one soloist took first place in the snare drum category. The marching band has done well competitively also. In 2007 at the Cavalcade of Bands competition, the "Scarlet Tide" marching band received second place in the AAA small category and the "Best Percussion" award.

Famous quotes containing the word arts:

The great end of all human industry is the attainment of happiness. For this were arts invented, sciences cultivated, laws ordained, and societies modelled, by the most profound wisdom of patriots and legislators. Even the lonely savage, who lies exposed to the inclemency of the elements and the fury of wild beasts, forgets not, for a moment, this grand object of his being.
    David Hume (1711–1776)

Women hock their jewels and their husbands’ insurance policies to acquire an unaccustomed shade in hair or crêpe de chine. Why then is it that when anyone commits anything novel in the arts he should be always greeted by this same peevish howl of pain and surprise? One is led to suspect that the interest people show in these much talked of commodities, painting, music, and writing, cannot be very deep or very genuine when they so wince under an unexpected impact.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

Musick is certainly a very agreeable Entertainment, but if it would take the entire Possession of our Ears, if it would make us incapable of hearing Sense, if it would exclude Arts that have a much greater Tendency to the Refinement of human Nature; I must confess I would allow it no better Quarter than Plato has done, who banishes it out of his Common-wealth.
    Joseph Addison (1672–1719)
