Music

It has been set to at least four hymn tunes:

  • Hymns Ancient and Modern (1875) contained a setting "Misericordia" by Henry T. Smart.
  • In 1890 Arthur H. Brown wrote "Saffron Walden" which was published in The Hymnal Companion.

Famous quotes containing the word music:

    What is our life? a play of passion;
    Our mirth the music of division;
    Our mothers’ wombs the tiring-houses be
    Where we are dressed for this short comedy.
    Sir Walter Raleigh (1552?–1618)

    The music in my heart I bore,
    Long after it was heard no more.
    William Wordsworth (1770–1850)

    Music is either sacred or secular. The sacred agrees with its dignity, and here has its greatest effect on life, an effect that remains the same through all ages and epochs. Secular music should be cheerful throughout.
    Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749–1832)
