- 1981 Major League Baseball strike: After MLB players walked out on strike at midnight, the first of 713 games to be cancelled was the 1:35 pm game between the Chicago Cubs and the visiting San Diego Padres. The last game, the Seattle Mariners' 8-2 win over the visiting Baltimore Orioles, had ended at 9:54 pm local time on June 11. The strike would last until August 1.
