Early Life

Alba was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, the son of Catherine (née Jensen) and Mark Alba. His mother is of Danish descent on her father's side and French Canadian ancestry on her mother's, and Alba's father is Mexican American, though both of his parents were born in California. Alba's parents married in their teenage years. His maternal grandfather was a Marine NCO for 30 years, serving in the Pacific during World War II, and later as Assistant Drum Major for the United States Marine Band. Alba was raised in an Air Force family with his sister, Jessica and his grandparents. His father's air force career took the family to Biloxi, Mississippi, and Del Rio, Texas before settling back in California.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

The shift from the perception of the child as innocent to the perception of the child as competent has greatly increased the demands on contemporary children for maturity, for participating in competitive sports, for early academic achievement, and for protecting themselves against adults who might do them harm. While children might be able to cope with any one of those demands taken singly, taken together they often exceed children’s adaptive capacity.
    David Elkind (20th century)

He had never learned to live without delight. And he would have to learn to, just as, in a Prohibition country, he supposed he would have to learn to live without sherry. Theoretically he knew that life is possible, may be even pleasant, without joy, without passionate griefs. But it had never occurred to him that he might have to live like that.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
