Background

Burke Catholic was established in 1899. The school was staffed by the Sisters of Charity. The school was renamed for John Stephen Burke, a local philanthropist, in 1964. General Martin Dempsey, a graduate of Burke in 1970 and also the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff deliever the commencement address at the class of 2012's graduation held at West Point.
