Calzaghe has three sons, two from a previous marriage. He split up with long-standing girlfriend Jo-Emma Larvin. After participating in the seventh series of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing series, partnering Russian professional Kristina Rihanoff. Calzaghe soon began a relationship with Rihanoff. A few months later, Calzaghe and Rihanoff split up.
Following an undercover investigation by the News of the World newspaper, Calzaghe admitted he had used cocaine since his boxing career had ended. In a statement on his website, he added that he regretted his "occasional use of cocaine in what have sometimes been the long days since my retirement from the ring."
