Jimmy Bartel - Personal Life

Personal Life

Although his father kept in regular contact and maintained a stable relationship with Jimmy and his sisters throughout their childhood, an incident during Bartel's 21st Birthday caused ties to be severed. Accusing his father of being an aggressive and heavy drinker, Bartel was forced to take a stand, and has since severed all contact with him. In the aftermath of Bartel's victory in the 2007 Brownlow Medal count, the family's issues were spotlighted throughout the media, after an interview with Terry Bartel by the Herald Sun revealed his plea for reconciliation with his children.

Off the field, Bartel holds a part-time job within the Geelong Football Club's social welfare department. He studied Social Work at Deakin University, and is now completing a degree in business and law through Open University.

Growing up, Bartel was a supporter of the Richmond Football Club. Bartel lives in the Geelong suburb of Newtown.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

... religion can only change when the emotions which fill it are changed; and the religion of personal fear remains nearly at the level of the savage.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)

Here lies the body of William Jones
Who all his life collected bones,
Till Death, that grim and boney spectre,
    That universal bone collector,
Boned old Jones, so neat and tidy,
And here he lies, all bona fide.
—Anonymous. “Epitaph on William Jones,” from Eleanor Broughton’s Varia (1925)
