Jim Tarbell - Political Career

Political Career

In 1997 the restaurateur began his political career by campaigning in his now well known top hat and tails. He was first appointed to the council in 1998 to replace the retiring Bobbie L. Sterne and was elected in 1999, and re-elected in 2001, 2003, and 2005. Until 2003, when Christopher Smitherman won a seat on the council, Tarbell was the sole Charterite on the council. In 2005, Tarbell was appointed Vice Mayor by Mark Mallory, the newly-elected Mayor of Cincinnati. Because of term limits, Tarbell could not run for reelection in the November 2007 election.

On March 4, 2010, Tarbell formally announced his candidacy for Hamilton County Commissioner.

Famous quotes containing the words political and/or career:

Not wishing to be disturbed over moral issues of the political economy, Americans cling to the notion that the government is a sort of automatic machine, regulated by the balancing of competing interests.
    C. Wright Mills (1916–1962)

Work-family conflicts—the trade-offs of your money or your life, your job or your child—would not be forced upon women with such sanguine disregard if men experienced the same career stalls caused by the-buck-stops-here responsibility for children.
    Letty Cottin Pogrebin (20th century)
