Jim Swire - Lockerbie Bombing

Lockerbie Bombing

On 20 December 1988, Swire's 23-year-old daughter Flora, who wanted to fly to the United States to spend Christmas with her American boyfriend, had little difficulty in booking a seat on the next day's half empty transatlantic Pan Am Flight 103. Flora died when Pan Am Flight 103 crashed at the town of Lockerbie, Scotland. Eleven residents of Lockerbie were killed by plummeting wreckage which brought the total number of fatalities to 270.

Famous quotes containing the word bombing:

The compulsion to do good is an innate American trait. Only North Americans seem to believe that they always should, may, and actually can choose somebody with whom to share their blessings. Ultimately this attitude leads to bombing people into the acceptance of gifts.
    Ivan Illich (b. 1926)
