Jesse Vassallo - Early Years

Early Years

Vassallo Anadón is the third child of five siblings, born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to the Vassallo Anadón family. He received his primary education in Academia Cristo Rey in Ponce. His father, Victor Vassallo, was the brother of the late Puerto Rican industrialist Salvador Vassallo, and was very sports-minded and encouraged his children to participate in sports. On one occasion, while relaxing by a hotel swimming pool in San Juan, Vassallo's father asked his sons to compete against some girls that were swimming laps in the pool. The father was impressed with what he saw, and as soon as he returned to Ponce he enrolled them in a local swimming team.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or years:

Early to rise and early to bed makes a male healthy and wealthy and dead.
    James Thurber (1894–1961)

When I was very young and the urge to be someplace was on me, I was assured by mature people that maturity would cure this itch. When years described me as mature, the remedy prescribed was middle age. In middle age I was assured that greater age would calm my fever and now that I am fifty-eight perhaps senility will do the job. Nothing has worked.... In other words, I don’t improve, in further words, once a bum always a bum. I fear the disease is incurable.
    John Steinbeck (1902–1968)
